Have you ever stopped to consider if there are true prophets in this generation or if the Word of God is sufficient and final, authoritative word of God? I would like you to consider this:
I personally believe that Dr Owuor is a false prophet - a man out to exalt himself above the knowledge of Christ. I say this based on three reasons: one, theological/doctrinal, two, his ministry and the last moral. This is the paradigm used in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9 regarding church leaders:
1. Theological:
Owuor does not hold firm the trustworthy word as taught, so that he is able to give instruction in sound doctrine (Titus 1:9). The reason for saying this is because he is busy constructing his own religion, patterned after his own imagination. This is the reason why the Bible is so foreign in his ministry. Since he is himself not instructed in sound doctrine, how can he possibly give instruction in sound doctrine? It is expecting to gather mangoes from cactus! This can be proved in the loudest of his claims - that he is a prophet, but is he?
Jesus is the last prophet - Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. (Heb. 1:1-2, ESV). The first point is that dreams, visions and other various ways are gone - they belong to long ago. It is no longer many times and many ways. It is one way, one time, one Person. Thankfully, we now have a perfect way in which the Lord Jesus speaks to His church perfectly.
Secondly, the Bible says that the church is founded upon the apostles and prophets (Eph. 2:20). Any foundation is laid only once, and every church (from Pentecost to Christ's second coming) depends on it - this is the word of God. That which is written for us and our children to obey forever (Deuteronomy 29:29). Owuor's ministry is founded upon predictions - not prophecy of Scripture. Who are prophets? Peter says that prophets are men who spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Prophecy is the word of God, NOT the word of Owour!
Lastly, Kenya is not the Israel of the old covenant for him to demand blanket national repentance. Where in the New Testament do we have an example of a national repentance? The plan of God under the new covenant is realized in the body of Christ - the universal church.
What is repentance? It is turning away from sin, trusting truly and solely in Christ. It is a change of heart actuated by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is acknowledging one's sin and wickedness and turning to the mercy of God in Christ. Repentance is to be done by an individual sinner. One acknowledges sins committed and goes to Christ in faith seeking the forgiveness of the sin or sins. When Owuor demands a corporate repentance, why does he not also demand corporate or national salvation?
His understanding of repentance is not Scriptural. He has a way of using the word, when really what he means is moral transformation according to his own standard. When people hear of his repentance, they believe that he is referring to the Biblical repentance where a sinner, by the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit, realizes and acknowledges sins, is remorseful about them, confesses them to God depending an trusting upon the merit of the finished work of Christ on the cross and turns away from the sins, renouncing them and living a life of godliness. Henceforth a believer engages in daily mortification of sin, by the help of the Holy Spirit employing the means of grace such as prayer, Scriptures, Christian fellowship found in the church and suffering that are like the fire that God uses to clean away the dross (1Peter 1:6-7).
2. His ministry
While he claims to have predicted so many outstanding things, who's confirmed all of them? Who's seen the emails he supposedly sent to the Far Asian countries that warned them of Tsunami or to the US warning about Katrina? I remember being involved in the organization of his coming to Maua town in 2006 when he threatened that miraa was to dry in two weeks time because the Meru community didn't repent. He also predicted that the Njuri Nceke council of elders was to be disbanded and be forgotten in a year - none of these things came to pass! Clearly, the Bible says that when a man speaks presumptuously (like the way Dr. Owuor spoke then), because it didn't come to pass, even once, then it proves that he does not receive anything from God because God is always truthful - check this out in Deuteronomy 18:15-22. Apostle Peter quotes this in Acts 3:22-26 as a reference to Christ - not any man purporting to be a prophet. This confirms my first point that God now speaks to us by His Son. Because Owuor made this specific error that I have identified, even if it were once, in Maua, publicly, that disqualified him from being God's spokesman (I doubt he ever was). A prophet is God's mouthpiece or spokesman, Not just a foreteller but a forthteller saying things that have happened in the past - like Moses going all the way to creation, like David or Jeremiah or Daniel telling his contemporaries what was happening and going to the future predictions. But the benchmark is that he speaks from God carried along by the Holy Spirit (2Peter 1:19-21). His 'prophetic ministry' is not anchored on the Scriptures, it is apparently tethered on his own dreams, visions and other extra-biblical revelations and in effect poisoned. Do not drink it, if you care for your soul!
3. Moral considerations
While Owuor tells the nation to repent, when he preaches and wants to 'lead people to salvation' he repents on their behalf! Where is a single instruction in the Bible that you can repent on another person's behalf? Where is a single example of a preacher or a prophet telling the sinner repeat this after me? "... Dear Jesus, I know I'm a sinner, please forgive me all my sins ..." Then, "You're now saved!" You can quickly interject and say that everyone preacher you know does it, but remember that other preachers are not the standard - the Bible is. This is a Charles Finney residue that the devil has appointed as his talisman for deceiving the world. It is a complete spiritual dishonesty, where a preachers require sinner to repeat their own repentance on the sinner's behalf. Let it be clear that this practice has no mandate from the Word of God.
It's shocking that people have continued to listen to Owuor, when all he does to get authority is to raise his profile by repeating what he's supposedly predicted - "O Tsunami, O Katrina! I did this I did that" - this is not God at work, it is Owuor at what he calls prophecy. This is pride that doesn't resonate with faithful and genuine servants of God. This is what this man needs to do - repent of his own presumption and pride. Most recently he has paraded his prosperity materially as a way of attracting the masses to himself. He claims that he does not ask for money from them - really? Find the truth from his followers. You will know them by their long robes.
Conclusion
There's is no question that there's much immorality in this country, and so Dr. Owuor is right that Kenyans need to repent, but not on his own terms. Repentance comes where the Holy Spirit has worked in the heart of a sinner. This way, a sinner receives the Gospel by turning from their sins and turns by faith to Christ.
About the rot in many 'churches' he's again right. But the solution is not to turn to his subjective messages of personal or private dreams and visions but a more sure word (2Peter 1:19-21) ... it's to call back all people to submit to the Word of God as the only rule of faith and practice for all.
While a message of holiness is always a good message to tell people, holiness has never been achieved for the whole nation (after Israel of old) - its now upon an individual, by God's Spirit. Holiness is only possible for true believers who have been transformed by the saving grace of CHRIST. Holiness is only experienced by those sinners who have had their sins forgiven, and given the Holy Spirit to make them holy as God is holy (1Peter 1:16). This process of being made holy will be completed in glory and this is the hope of all genuine Christians.
Prayer
May the Lord give us a spirit of discernment to know the wolves in sheepskin and distinguish truth from error.
May the Lord raise up genuine preachers of his Word who instead of alarming people with terror of post election violence (like Owuor did on NTV's show (30/11/12). Those who will instead give the right diagnosis of all men - that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God ... (Romans 3:23). But more than that, prescribe the right medicine - ".... are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in CHRIST JESUS, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by FAITH. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has FAITH IN JESUS. (Romans 3:24-26)
Appeal
Have you trusted Jesus yourself? If not, then the wrath of God rests on you if you remain in ungodliness (Romans 1:18). But the Good News is that if you would go to Christ, personally, even privately, pleading with the Lord Jesus to be merciful to you, as a sinner, then you could be saved.
Finally
This nation is in the hands of the sovereign God. I assure all Kenyans that God knows the outcome of election. Moreover, HE determines the course of history of ALL nations. You need not panic because Owuor has said that there will pev ... if that is what God wants then he's made provisions for his people. My emphasis is that it is in God that we must put our trust and confidence - He is the sure refuge in times trouble. Let us pray in faith knowing this - that the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials (2Peter2:9). Furthermore, he's declared that he'll not destroy the righteous with the wicked (Genesis 18:22-33).

ReplyDeleteHi pastor, are you saying the office or ministry of the prophet has no scriptural basis in today's church? What of Ephesians 4:11-13 that teaches that the prophets are among the ministers that have been given to the church for building it to maturity?

He gave some specific ministries in the leadership of the church: He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers. The apostles and the prophets are the foundation of the church (Eph. 2:20) and every church depends on the word that they were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write. The foundation having been laid by the twelve and the prophets these two gifts and ministries are done in that there ought to be no addition for them – the last man prophet is John the Baptist as Jesus said in Matthew 11:1314. The last Prophet prophesied by Moses in Deuteronomy 18:15, 18, 19 is Jesus Christ (Acts 3:22-26) Hebrews 1:1,2 clarifies that there is only one way or method in which God has spoken to us – by His Son (this is in contrast to the manner He spoke in the past at different times by the prophets in diverse ways). He also gave evangelists who continue to reach out to the lost with the message of the gospel and the pastor/teachers who lead and feed the church.
I beg to differ with your criticism of Prophet Dr Owuor. The truth is that the gift of prophecy is still very much alive today.

Pastor Muriungi, i have read your post and i totally agree with you. As for the person above, kindly do not belabor to answer him/her but let's pray that God will give us, Kenyan Christian a Berean thirst for his word. We shall know them by their fruit, the Bible says, and from his reply calling you names, his fruit is there for all to see. Only God is mighty, men are just but worms, a symbol of true ministry is that it glorifies God and not man.

Acts 21:8-10 “On the next day we who were Paul’s companions departed and came to Caesarea , and entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. 9 Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied. 10 And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea .”
So here in verse 9 we see four women who are prophets. And also in verse 10 we see a male prophet. So based on the Bible it is possible to have male or female prophets after the time of Jesus, as this was recorded in the book of Acts. Also I think we can both definitely agree that the book of Revelation is inspired, and that is a prophetic book written by John, after Jesus ascended to heaven. So we already have a clear answer from the Bible to our first question. It is possible to have prophets after Jesus.

But let the one who is being persecuted remain faithful - I can never be justified if I were to resort to insulting people or revenging in any way... Is very clearly interpreted by non other than Christ Himself in
Matthew 11:14
"For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Matthew 11:13-15, ESV)
There is no question that the Elijah prophesied by Malachi is John the Baptist and not any other man.
Notice that the Bible is clear prophets prophesied UNTIL JOHN... This gives no room for prophets now!
How can even think that Owuor would have such a position in the Bible when the Bible clearly says that it is John the Baptist? Please be very careful that by being overzealous you end up putting your own things on the Bible or try even writing your own!

Spirit of Elijah will come 4 times, 1st Elijah himself, 2nd Elisha-Elijah double portion (2 kings 2:9-15) 3rd John the baptist(Matthew 11:13-15) 4th the Endtime Prophet (Malachi 4:5 & Revelation 11:3-15). 4th is not yet fulfill.

DeleteI would just like to say "thank you" for pointing out the truth that I have been trying to show for so long. Several 'friends' of mine on Facebook, from Africa have been after me for a very long time to follow this Dr. Owuor. I knew nothing of him, but watched a little of him on youtube and felt 'not right' inside. So I told my friends, when Jesus tells me to watch him, I will, until then, I will just keep my eyes on Jesus, because you can't go wrong with that. Well you would think, as Christians, that would have been a satisfying response, but it was not. Over the months, they tried to persuade me, saying I would really know the truth if I followed him. The begged me to follow this man. I pointed out that they were emphasizing this man more than they were emphasizing Christ Jesus and I would have no part of it. Still they continued to badger me about him, even trying to make me feel guilty and not a Christian if I did not follow him. The last straw came when one of them put on my wall a long 'list' of do's and dont's to get into heaven, apparently associated with Dr. Owuor. On this list of dont's was that if I use conditioner in my hair, wear contacts for eyesight, or heels that were too high (what is too high? Is Jesus going to hold a measuring tape when I die and if I am 1/16th too high, I must go to hell?!??!?!)etc, etc, then I would go to hell. Granted, I know what the Word of God says about holiness and righteousness and trust me, in and through Him I am made holy and righteous! Also know, if you genuinely love Him and live for Him, HEEEEE (not Dr. Owuor) will lead me in paths of righteousness (He cannot lie!)and I will no longer have a nature to sin and He will set me on the straight and narrow. Of course, if I choose I may stray, but it will no longer be in my nature to do so. This was the last straw for me. I had been kind and loving and had tried to show them how they were making a mockery of the cross, but in the end I had to delete them from my friend's list. After I deleted one of them, he messaged me and told me that because of what I had done by deleting him, I was denying Christ. So, he had to be blocked. I still love and pray for these people. I love Dr. Owuor and pray that he turns from his ways and seeks the face of Jesus. However, the harm that he is doing, the occult following that he has, it is really breaking my heart. Yes, he is teaching repentance and hellfire, all the while taking away the grace of God. People are so focused on the evil of prosperity preachers (which are a real problem) they are passing over people like this because they teach hellfire and repentance. Just because they teach half the truth does not make it the truth. Remember, the serpent in the garden told almost the whole truth... Thanks again!

So he confesses that Jesus has come in the flesh. And many have come to Christ from his preaching. A house divided will fall if done by Satan. Even Preachers like Benny Hinn can bring some to Christ even if he is in it for the money and fame. They all will answer to our God at the end. But God still moves in mysterious ways. So let God be the Judge. The Lord even uses leaders in high places

The only good being done is popularizing himself as a prophet of God and getting himself as many followers as possible: The result is that many follow him as if he is the Christ or the Saviour, many households have been broken because of the women who follow him blindly so that they could be his 'wailing women!'

ReplyDeleteDr. Owuor is not in communication with creator god, the true living god connected through Jesus Christ and the Archangel Michael. Dr. Owuor is speaking about the God of this world, the god of the old testament, Saturn.
His message is not marking the coming of the creator God represented in flesh and blood through Jesus Christ. He is a lost sheep trying to lead others... a shepherd not to put your faith in. Want answers? Pray to Christ, connect to Christ, believe in Christ... It is much easier then all of us have been making it.
Why don't you pray to God so he can use you the same way he is using Prophet Dr. Owuor. Instead of wasting time turning people away from him, you could spend it searching for those who do not know Christ yet. I am sure there are very many lost sheep out there. Criticizing and hating on other chosen men of God is not helping anybody at the end of the day. If he is a false prophet, he will answer to God alone in the day of Judgement just like all of us.

If you mean I pray so that I can be like Owuor, I'd say God forbade that such a terrible thing could happen to me! God speaks to me, not by dreams but by His Word, through His Spirit.
DeleteI have every intention of turning people away from anyone who wants people to go after him instead of following Christ, from whom there is hope and forgiveness of sins. The Bible is very clear that he who trusts in man will perish. But whoever trusts in Christ will not perish but will have everlasting life. If the crowd that goes after Owuor is only following a man then there is no hope for them - the true hope is in Christ.
Of course you think that I am causing unncessary troubl. But notice from the Scripture how many times we are told to watch out for false teachers who are described as wolves in sheepsking? Jesus and the Apostles resisted the false teachers of their day! We know that they are out to devour and not to build!

I'm shocked that many sincere people continue to listen to Owuor. You realize that I was responding to an interview on TV where he said that there was going to be "pev" - post-election violence in Kenya. The Kenyan election was conducted on 4th March and the new government is in place. There was calm (of course not peace). Peace is only for Christians & found in Christ, the Prince of Peace.

So why are people not questioning this? Only because they're are deceived and held captive by Owuor.

While we acknowledge that there's good Owuor has done and is doing good. However, he's done much damage and is shipwrecking and overthrowing the faith of many by his false teachings, by his pretences by his life that is far short, by his ministry and by his predictions that are not from God (but from his head).

Test the Spirits
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
MANY of those who are on TV are false teachers and doing a lot of damage by propagating error and exploiting their hearers of money. You must listen to them with your ears and eyes open (to the pages of Scriptures, praying for the Lord to help you). Most of you think that simply because Owuor preaches what he calls "repentance & holiness" he is referring to the repentance from sin and holiness of the Bible (Obeying God in his Word).
When Owuor says "repentance" He means repent before him (if you were convicted of sin and repented at home - this is not repentance to him because it has to be done before him!)
When he says holiness it means:
Wearing the clothes he prescribes, following him wherever he goes (within Kenya), you belong to his alters, etc! THis is not the holiness of the Bible!
Do not be deceived!
The only true prophets that I know are those mentioned in the Bible - whose prophetic message is autheticated by God Himself.

1. Why does he parade his miracles if they are from God? Jesus did not do it, His Apostles never had such banners or posters or messengers to tell people:
We will be coming in Jerusalem on such and such a date, bring your sick people, etc.

ReplyDelete2. Test of the spirits-I have already done that on Prophet Owour since 2006 till 2012 from personal followup on him. And Through Christ mercies he is a true Prophet. Do not use the mount kenya slogan please, that since Luos are not circumcised, then Owour is wrong...hehe. that is my part. Just do your own analysis, follow up on what he speaks and you can clearly see how he emphasizes about repentance and holiness, rebuking women that dresses scantly, and false pastors in the Church. Just conduct your own analysis...not on what others say, but what on what you know is your self-evaluation.
3. Parading miracles-On my perspective that cannot be called parading. It is confirming about Jehovah's mighty healing power after doctors confirm that truly that person was ill and that after the prayer they have been healed. He emphasizes through his "parading" that that is not an indication of boastfulness, but a manifestation about the redemption and deliverance. ReplyDelete2. Test of the spirits-I have already done that on Prophet Owour since 2006 till 2012 from personal followup on him. And Through Christ mercies he is a true Prophet. Do not use the mount kenya slogan please, that since Luos are not circumcised, then Owour is wrong...hehe. that is my part. Just do your own analysis, follow up on what he speaks and you can clearly see how he emphasizes about repentance and holiness, rebuking women that dresses scantly, and false pastors in the Church. Just conduct your own analysis...not on what others say, but what on what you know is your self-evaluation.

Brother Murungi, I have a question on a seperate issue. Perhaps you've answered it somewhere elsoe, but seeing how you interpet scripture seems to be sound, I thought I should ask you this. Do you believe christians ought to tithe? I don't believe tithing is a New Testament requirement. What is your understanding?

DeleteThere is no biblical mandate from the New Testament for Christians to tithe as it used to happen in the Old Covenant... However, we learn the lesson that we must give towards the support of the work of God to show that we are depending on Him for our provision. We also give to the needy - the poor, the orphans, the widows and the aliens. We give to those who are labouring in the ministry of the gospel (OT gave to the Levites and Priests).
In the NT we have many principles to direct us on how we may give:
E.G.
in Matthew 6:1-4 we learn that we must give SECRETLY
1Corinthians 16:1-2 we learn that we must give in proportion to our income "as we may prosper"
we give beforehand so that it is giving thoughtfully - "put something aside and store it up... so that there is no collecting when I come"
From 2Cor8 &9 we learn that it has to be the heart first (8:5), Sacrificially (8:3-4), generously (8:2)
cheerfully (9:7) with readiness - 8:12), etc.
But the point is that if tithing was for less privileged OT believers, do you think NT believers with all the privileges as Peter says in 1Peter 1:10-12) will we give less?
SInce it is cheerful we must not lay laws on giving but the Lord will direct us by His Spirit. I fear that many people are coercing and cajoling, intimidating and threatening people to give - this is the reasoning behind "Panda mbegu ubarikiwe"
I think I wrote an article on this blog sometimes back that you could search to find what I teach on giving.
At TBC (where I serve) We only have put up permanent offering boxes for people to give whenever they have been prospered.

DeleteOh my! These are the exact words that have been coming out of my mouth for months!!! Did not the serpent in the garden of eden tell 'nearly' the truth?!?!? How is satan supposed to deceive? He is deceiving many with prosperity preachers, but for those that want repentance and hell fire, they have those like Dr. Owuor who have made a mockery of the cross and all but laughed at grace! If we go by his preachings, then what do we need Jesus for anyway? I will tell you this, I am saved by grace and not of myself! BY HIM AND THROUGH HIM I AM MADE RIGHTEOUS AND HOLY~! I have lost several friends because they follow Dr. Owuor (an occult following, I might add) and they insisted I follow him as well. When I refused, at first they were very nicely trying to encourage me to follow him, saying once I did, I would see and know the truth and be like them. I said "when Jesus tells me to follow a man, then I will, in the meantime, I will just keep my eyes on Jesus and I will not go wrong; for He alone will lead me in paths of righteousness, He cannot lie!" I quoted all the scripture that pastor quoted about satan using lying wonders and signs and such, all to no avail. The final straw came when one of them posted to my facebook wall, a list of Dr. Owuor'd do's and dont's if I wanted to get into heaven. According to the list, I am for sure going to hell. I use hair conditioner, wear a bra and I even wear women's trousers sometimes. Praise Jesus that Dr. Owuor is not my authority and the one who is, when He looks at me, sees His Son, Christ Jesus. Do not get me wrong, I know what the Word says of required holiness and righteousness. To that I say, if you abide in Him and He in you, He will see that. Of course, we may stray if we like, but we no longer have a sin nature. What was once natural, becomes unnatural. We can decide to walk away from Him, but as long as He is in you and you in Him, He will lead you in paths of righteousness - I promise! After I deleted the person for putting that list on my facebook wall, he private messaged me and told me I had denied Jesus by my actions (deleting him). If this is not proof enough, I do not know is!! To ANY Christian, the fact that I ONLY keep my eyes on the Lord Jesus Christ, you think would be enough to make any Christian very happy and pleased, but it is not enough for those that follow Dr. Owuor. We must pray that Dr. Owuor and his followers wake up. We must pray that everyone wakes up before it is too late!! Amen!
What about the magicians and the Egyptian enchanters before Moses? Did they not produce snakes as well?
DeleteDr Owour was in Namibia between 2006-2008. He prophesied an earthquake (judgement) coming to Namibia. It did not come to pass.
ReplyDeleteNow this year, on the 14th July 2013, he prophesied "racial tension" coming to South Africa: White vigilantes and black vigilantes fighting. This prophecy came AFTER Julius Malema formed the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). We know that there are already white racist groups in South Africa but the EFF might turn out to be more of a "militant" political party than a military group. The word "militant" in Southern Africa comes from the liberation struggles but it does not always involve military action.
This prophecy looks opportunistic to me but we will see if it will come to pass or it will fall to the ground like the "earthquake coming to Namibia".
Hey Pastor, praise God. I beg to know who made you/or how you became a pastor. Were you called to preach Jesus or prove other preachers wrong? Pastor I think you are a theologian or those John says were with us but left us because they are not part of us 1 John 2. I actually do not know many scriptures as I have seen you do, but what I know is only Jesus saves. A preacher is raised to preach Jesus and not to point fingers. So do you also want popularity out of this? In the first place why did you open this blog? To tell the sheep of Christ, "Don't listen to that watchman, come to me"? I tell you, they shall perish and their blood will be on you Ezek 33. Pastor by what you have done you have led many astray. Please repent in the name of Jesus. DeleteI live in America and I have been to the meetings in Kenya. Since I started listening to the teachings of Dr. Owuor my family and I have experienced revival. My daughter was healed by the Lord Jesus, my son accepted the Lord. He teaches pure devotion to Jesus Christ. He teaches that we must flee from sin. He teaches about the cross, the blood and soon coming of the Lord. He teaches sound doctrine and always points people to the Lord. He is a humble servant of God who is always trying to help people. He spends a lot of time in prayer and fasting. I don't see why you are accusing him of being a false prophet. The Bible says that by their fruit you know their spirit. I sounds to me you are just jealous of him. I thank the Lord for him because he truly preaches the truth and here in America there is so much corruption in the church and falsehood. I think you need to read the book of Daniel when he repented on behalf of his country. I pray you will partake of the endtime revival that is happening in your country. blessings
ReplyDeleteRecently in Nakuru, for all the period he was on air on KTN he did not preach from the Bible... all he did was to parade people from all over to endorse him as prophet. This is not preaching the gospel. We must be careful as Christians not to think that the end justifies the means. Owuor preachers himself but mixes it with Bible language to deceive people.

I was at that meeting, and I saw a lot of people of other religions accept the Lord Jesus. Hindus, Muslims, etc. They became Christians because they saw the power of God. The Bible says there is only one mediator between God and man and His name is Jesus Christ. That is whom I have put my faith in. Nevertheless, I believe that Dr. David Owuor is a true Prophet of God and the Lord has used Him to bless me and my family. I don't know what kind of church you have but you seem to have a lot of free time that you waste attacking Prophet Dr Owuor. Instead I think you should be using your time to go out and preach to the lost and pray for the sick like the Lord commanded us to do. Let God be God, one day He will judge all of us. I am currently in Nakuru and just witnessed "the prophet" ushered by a Kenya Prisons band across Kenyatta street down to the stadium where his followers have been camping since last night (some of whom spent in the cold). Sincerely, something is going very wrong and the this brainwashing is breaking the banks. I concur with you that these are not followers of Christ but of Owuor. No prophet in the Bible sought to have people follow him but God. God was the focus and not the prophet! We are experiencing an scriptural illiteracy of the highest level. My brother (if you are saved by the Lord Jesus Christ), Every preacher (including the false) will come appearing to preach against sin (Pope is against abortion!) and will mention the name of Christ and of God and wield the Bible. This is a facade so that they can deceive. Who would be deceived if they came saying that they are false teachers? So everyone comes purporting to preach the gospel. They would not admit that they are false teachers... The way to know them is to scrutinize what they preach and how they live!

May you not, as Paul the apostle puts it, as a part of the body say you do not need another. Being a pastor may you not reject the gift & office of prophets in your life as well as ministry, remembering that as brethren dwell together, when the body's different members come together in unity, the Lord commands a blessing.
Apart from some knowledge of theology and being called pastor, what basis do you have for your claim? Have you prayed about it and asked God through the Holy Spirit to minister to u and teach u concerning it? I suggest u take it up to the Lord in prayer. Because, even as u have rightly quoted, God speaks to us today through His Spirit.
Joel 2:28 '.. your sons and daughters shall prophesy..' When?
The same God who used Elijah, Moses, Jeremiah is still alive and at work today. He has however poured out His Spirit on all flesh, such that many of us, if we listen and learn to discern His voice would hear from Him.
And not only hearing. In 1 Cor 12 Paul says the giftings are given to each to profit withal. We do not receive prophetic words from God for us to feel great, but to serve others, letting them know what God is saying to and about them at certain times, whether as an encouragement or rebuke. It is more about God and His people, than it is about the vessel.
And as we receive the words to speak to others from God, as Paul said 'woe is me if I do not preach the gospel'. The gospel here including scripture & what God is speaking, as it is all good news about & from Jesus..
I will not judge Prophet Owuor or discuss him here. But let us ask the Holy Spirit to grant us discernment, knowledge and wisdom as we serve His people.
God loves you. May He bless you and use u to speak His truth, a vessel for noble use.

He well knows this that is why instead of depending upon the Lord to protect him, he has to hire goons just like the politicians do. He is by his false pretences misleading many. What I worry about is your understsnding of the bible.There is no where the Bible says the gifts of the holy spirit ceased, indeed Paul confirms them and lists them including prophecy. I am also concerned that a pastor can stand in judgement of another who preaches Christ and Him crucified. The Bible clearly tells us that if we see a brother in sin we should confront them in private then take a witness and finally if he fails to turn away from his sin, then tell it to the church my question toyou is have you done the same? Seek the wisdom, seek the face of God to reveal to you about this man before you call him a false prophet. Greater miracles were we promised to do by Jesus christ if we stand by him. Didn`t you read the scriptures that even by the shadow of Peter men were healed. Don`t you remembe rthe scriptures that we shall know them by their fruits? Ave you forgotten about fasting. We also JUDGE against the false "idolatry gospel" preached by Owuor, in which the "prophet" is treated like a EATHLY KING,called Lord and what "he has said/warned/spoken etc" replaces the sound doctrine of the Cross.
(3)RELEVANCE of prophets: In the Old times(read old covenant -old agreement between man & God) God could only speak to his Prophets. But now, in the new Covenant(new agreement between man & God), its Emmanuel!! God with us!! we do not rely on the prophets to hear from god, rather, he lives with us through the holy Spirit. The holy spirit REPLACED the prophets and now, All who receive it become prophets, hearing directly from God like Moses, Elijah etc!. Now, fortunately, the holy spirit has been Poured to ALL men! (not to "some" men) If you are a born again Christian you only need to ASK for the Gift of prophecy and God will Grant you that - he is a generous God. Fortunately again Most of The IMPORTANT PROPHECY has already been revealed by the book of revelation. So these "new" sensational prophecies and predictions by owuor are just a façade, I mean what does "miraa drying" have to do with entering the kingdom of God??
(4)If you got saved in an owuor meeting or through his teachings, am sorry but you received a COUNTERFEIT GOSPEL and you need to urgently get "unsaved" from this and embrace the True Gospel of the Cross THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS ONLY.

Owuor is the end time prophet. how did he command rain to rain and it rained broad day light at Kakamega and ordred it to stop and it did??? only God can help his servant do it to that. Owuor does not preach the gospel of the Bible - he only purports to... He does not preach the truth he is a deceiver by miracles that are not even true - why did people die in Nakuru? Why did he need body guards? Why didn't he preach the gospel but only asked for fake testimonies from those people who were going to praise him? Some people say that he told that there's going to be a night of long knives in sa where black and white people will fight each other and sa is going to be divided. that should happen after mandela dies, or so they say. owuor has also warned about civil war in africa after mandela dies (although "siener" said this much earlier). siener has also said a lot of other things, like that ww3 where russians will attack europe and horrible ray-weapons will be used (nikola tesla deathray?), will occur soon after racial conflicts and other confusion in europe and all over the world.

Talking about repentance and holiness as I have replied many of you, is not the point - this is just a buzzword that he uses to get you. Repentance is turning from sin to the Living God. A sinner does it personally. What I have seen with Owuor is that he tells those who want to repent to repeat words of repentance after him. Now tell me, if they repent his words, who has repented? Look at the New Testament pattern of repentance.
Holiness in the same way is not just abstaining from sin (it is important that we turn from sin) but is also trusting in Christ, in His Word and living a life of submissive obedience to the Lord. He says he knows about holiness and yet he has no humility in that he uses such titles that no humble person can ever use for himself. I am sure you must have followed his meetings in Nakuru the other day - did you hear someone call him Lord? DId you hear Jesus is Lord radio say that he is mightiest of the prophets? Tell me what humility and faith is there in being protected by body guards?
You have pointed out the issue of miraa - there is a big difference between miraa trees drying up and miraa ban in UK - surely there is! There is a difference between miraa drying up in two weeks time and miraa ban in the Europe after seven and half years! When the Bible says, "...with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. (2 Peter 3:8, ESV) It is WITH THE LORD that a day is as a thousand years. Please do not interpret the Bible in a way that suits you - look at the Bible objectively. It also does not say, two weeks is as seven and half years! My brother, I have no personal interest in miraa! I never have and I wish that all miraa could dry today because there is so much damage that has been brought by miraa. So many people do not have a place for God because of the money that they gain from Miraa, children do not go to school, etc. I was a pastor in Maua town for two and half years and the greatest struggle was seeking to point the rich there to put their trust in Christ. So please do not think that I care about miraa.
Consider the context of the initial article - he threatened the country with post election violence something that did not take place and I thought that I needed to encourage the nation to trust in the Lord and so I wrote,

You overlook the context of my article and take offense that i am criticising a man that you think is faithful preacher. I find it difficult to understand his faithfulness when there is so much that he has done that does not speak of a servant of God. He loves media display doesn't he? He loves publicity with his miracles which again falls short because people died in Nakuru. Why does he ask people to give 'testimonies' of healings? Is not to lift up his profile? Most of the times when Jesus healed people he told them to keep quiet (except the man at Gadara (See Mark 5:1-20). Even for this man, he was to testify of the mercy of the Lord in the absence of Christ because the people there begged Jesus to leave their area.)
I have nothing to gain personally by criticizing Owuor or any other man, but there is a lot of loss to the Kingdom of God when Christians are drawn away from following Christ to follow a man. There is a lot of spiritual damage being done when people are more interested in following men rather than Christ. What I am doing is exposing the wolves in the sheepskin which is is equally important.
If you think Owuor is a faithful man please help me to organize a meeting with him and point these things to him.
May the Lord keep you by His sovereign grace Maina that you will not be tossed about by every wind of doctrine. Rather that you will be grounded in faith, in truth, in love and the Spirit.
Whether Dr. Owour is right or wrong should not be a Christian's focus. Christ, and I mean Christ is the express image of God and our true role model. He is the firstborn among many brethren. The problem in balancing the equation is when Christians underrate the power of the Christ of God to lead and influence their lives and opt to depend on mortal beings.
ReplyDeleteWhere Dr. Owour has erred as a human, he has to answer to God, in whose name He speaks. I guess Dr. Owour could have 99% of his message correct, but the mere 1% that may be faulty/deceptive is fatal enough to mislead masses and spell doom for his personal destiny.
The psychological structure of cult movements is to hold masses captive and make them focus on a person(Leader) other than Christ.But every cult has one issue that is desperately wrong and in total contravention of Gods word as originally given. It is unfortunate if clandestine perspectives of the movement revolve around moral deficiencies or idolatry.
Any movement that undermines family values and motivates disobedience and desertion in marriage is not even worth talking about.
To be more objective, examine Dr. Owour's teachings/movement in the light of God's word, and not out hearsay or pure hatred. Even the vilest offender needs God's mercy.

ReplyDeleteI have followed this discussion very closely and with deep concern. I must say I am very sorry for some of the responses that you have received. The issues you have raised are very serious and more so because this is a matter that bears so much weight as far as our eternity is concerned.
One of the major issues that you have raised is the issue of PEV that he prophesied. He also did the same in several occasions before the 2007 elections and he said the remedy would be a national repentance. Kenyans never did that and there it was the 2007 PEV.
Just before the 2013 on several occasions he said there would be a PEV in 2013 unless Kenya repented. Kenya did repent and we had the most peaceful general election ever(I stand corrected on this if I am wrong)
You have also raised issue with the way he is welcomed. Please note that Israel never honored the prophets that were sent to her.(Mathew 23:37,Luke 13:34,Luke 19:41-44)
These are a result of Israel not honoring the prophets sent to them. And you see up to today Israel does not have the temple in its original form where they can worship and the Glory of God can descend like it did in the time when king Solomon dedicated the temple in 1 Kings 8:10-12. That was the Glory. The very same Glory that when it visited during the time of prophet Haggai in Haggai 2:1-9. It was promised that the glory of the latter house would be greater than what happened during the time of Solomon the King. All because they never honored the prophets, they are not a good example when it comes to honoring the prophets.
When they Call him "my lord" it is not the same as saying Lord as in the Lord Jesus. You can check the definition of the word 'lord ' from the dictionary, it has various meanings including to accord respect to somebody as Abigail did in 1 Samuel 25:28, showing respect to the king(David) and not the King(Jesus) also to my lord (David)and not to My Lord(Jesus).
And when they welcome the prophet who is sent of God it means they also welcome Him who sent him(the prophet, that is why they say we welcome the Holy Spirit, or the Lord. You can look at it from the perspective of what Jesus was talking about in Mathew 23:37-39
I also wish to let you know that I love to read the bible and to find the truth from it and that I have also closely followed the prophets teachings,because he has many teachings posted on youtube, and he has never, at least from those teachings, tried to direct people to himself. He has always directed them to Christ (The Soon Coming King). At one point he even said that the message that he has been given he has to deliver it as it was given him otherwise the Lord would disqualify him and send another.
I know I have not addressed all the concerns that you have, however from my view I have tried to address the ones that seem to be weightier.

I am NOT willing to judge anyone as either false or not! that's God work. I am willing and indeed I listen to the word of God from diverse preachers and I read my bible from whence I distinguish the truth from a lie. If a pastor or a prophet helps me get closer to God..even is he is a false one..I don't care. Why? God will judge me as an individual. I won't go to heaven or hell coz of another person. I will go because of my own deeds and thoughts.

The fruits of the Holy Spirit are: Humility, goodness, kindness, love , self control.
So then you will ask, but people abuse Grace! (If you think you are so intelligent to cheat on God, as if he is blind or deaf, go ahead..But remember God cannot be mocked, and your wrath will be stored up until the day of judgement )

DeleteI no longer believe Dr.Ouwor is a true prophet. I used to. I believe he is a servant of the Lord. But I think he's possibly being led by the devil. It seems like the most insignificant event that might happen here he later post on his website about a major prophesy he said came true. As a matter of fact, it seems any natural disaster event that happens, he claims he prophesied it and that it was the Lord's wrath. I refuse to believe that nonsense. The Bible says the Devil is the prince of power of air. If there's anyone making these disasters happen, it's him! And why does he never preach about anything positive or uplifting? He is always preaching something negative and fearful regarding God. Constant wrath and anger is not the true image of God. So I have much reason to believe Dr.Ouwor has been deceived by demons. What's more sad is that newly religious Africans are not reading the Bible and being able to discern these spirits. They are falling hook line and sinker for this believing in some counterfeit God that wants them to be miserable and guilt ridden and in fear.

Challenge: After noting the mistakes you point out on Dr Owuor, what have you done to help him in person instead of propaganda on internet? Have you done something close to James 5:19?

I only gave "prophet" my time yesterday with Jeff Koinange live and I told myself we shut our eyes and say yes to this man, no to me with my little faith he can only predict and not a prophesy. He could have done better in geology. Are you not my witness he has specialised in storms, quakes and most of all terrorism why? These to us they are obvious he is doing quite some study. why did he not predict on turere Narok Accident. Or more recent the boat that capsized in the Italian Coast? DeleteDr David Owour is coming here to Australia end of the year. I do not know if I will go or not. If he is from God I will surly go but if not I won't. He does preach holiness and repentance, and the fact Jesus is coming so soon for the saints. Prophecy is coming to pass in this generation and it is high time the church wakes up. whether David is from God or not is not the issue the question everyone should be asking themselves is if Jesus came today to rapture the church will you be ready? and if you are to die today where will you end up? that is the question all believers should ask themselves because narrow is the way to eternal life and only a few find it. I do not look upon man I trust only Jesus and the Father. I am sceptical a bit of him but at the same time just in case he is from God I don't want to disappoint God. But only Jesus and the Father know for sure, it is not in my hands.

ReplyDeleteI have listened extensively to this man Owuor, and yes, apart from his visions, which no one can corroborate or refute, his doctrine is almost impeccable when compared to scripture. On the face of it, he certainly is a fearless purveyor of truth, especially in contrast with most preachers today. But some tiny observations rang sirens in my mind while watching his crusades (in Kakamega and in Paris) you can find these on u-tube:

2. Constant reference to his 'left prophetic arm' - where do you get that in the bible?
3. Wild screaming and convulsions of worshippers, including his bishops, when the holy spirit supposedly comes down - some of the movements being very sensuous, others so violent as to demand medical attention
the only time in the bible people scream and convulse is when they have demons or epilepsy. Study also, and you will see that whenever the presence of God came down, people fell face down, never backward, except in cases of judgment.
Secondly, the bible is clear "God is not a God of confusion, but of peace' there is nothing peaceful about a dramatic cacophony of manic screams and wild beastly convulsions. again 'but the fruit of the spirit is .... self-control' The spirit of God has never (in the bible) produced screeching and involuntary jerking in people - thats the work of demons or disease
But finally, please go to youtube and search 'kundalini awakening'. the exact same phenomenon seen in the paris meetings is experienced in hindu worship - only Jesus is not mentioned there! In both cases, it is scary and wild - the feeling of heat, the screaming, the involuntary movements, and speaking in strange tongues and yes, a feeling of divine empowerment, joy and peace!

ReplyDeleteIt is not a strange thing for false prophets to preach the truth - Paul recognizes this, that even in the early church there were those who preached the gospel out of envy, others for monetary gain, others for self-agrandisment. Yet he was glad that whatever the motive, the gospel was preached anyway! and so should we! I think there ought to be more of us out there preachng genuine repentance! :) God is merciful, He is able to use the ministry of anyone who declares the gospel to save and transform, in spite of the minister and so it will not surprise me if genuine conversions have happened in Owuor's ministry. I myself was once encouraged by some things about the heretic Derek Prince who teaches that Christians can be possessed by demons.
However, teaching the gospel is one thing - living it is another. 'You will know them by their fruit'.
Some have here earlier pointed out issues to do with his lavish life, security detail, acknowledging of high standing people in his service etc, which are all very unlike biblical prophets... But worst of all, I think, in direct contradiction to instructions for orderliness in worship (see corinthians) he induces chaotic demonic manifestations in worshippers. For years I and many others were similarly duped by the likes of Benny Hinn et al who received their power from graveyards and who produce the same wild manifestations in worshippers, live large and have a vip security detail.... Even before I mustered biblical evidence against the practice in Hinn's church, my spirit was always uneasy watching him! (I know that sounds mystical :) ) In fact i regretted watching the Paris meeting because the wild and sensuous movement of some of the women on the floor made it look more like an orgy than worship - instead of inspiring reverence, I ended up battling the gyrating images from my mind for the rest of the day! (So watch with caution if you are a human like me)
So in conlusion...Owuor may in many or perhaps almost all points preach the truth. Good! God is able to use that for good, and He will. He did it in Paul's day and He will do it today as well. In Jesus' day, the pharisees ascribed the work of the Holy Spirit to the devil. In this man's ministry, the work of Satan is being ascribed to the Holy Spirit! If people have been changed, that is so not because of Owuor, but in spite of him... for the gospel is powerful in itself to save, no matter the motives of those who preach it. I fear ... I have tried to be fair and reverent and careful, But i fear this man might be unleashing demons in many pretentiously in the name of God. Remember - Satan is way smarter than all of us! He knows the bible more than many of us do, and his greatest weapon is not unleashed in a fiery smoking monster, but in the deception of seemingly incontrovertible ministers of truth. Unless the Spirit of God is also resident in the kundalini cult, I am very shy to acknowledge that this man's power is from God. Again watch the Paris meeting (with caution)... I assure you, that is NOT God! Dont take my word for it. Study your bible and see if you will find such except as an attribute of demons!!! Shalom :)
